Segregation
Segregation is the separation of waste into different streams and the treatment of each stream to ensure complete sterilization and recycling. Some material may have to go to deep burial/sanitary landfill sites. Non-infectious waste must be kept separate from infectious waste at all costs. Segregation is the prime responsibility of the waste producer and should take place as close as possible to where the waste is generated.
