002._Central Pollution Control Board

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is a statutory body under the aegis Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India.  CPCB was constituted in 1974 under the provisions of the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and later the responsibilities under the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, were also entrusted to Central Board.  With the promulgation of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 and various regulation follows, additional duties has been assigned to CPCB. CPCB along with its counterparts State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) are responsible for implementation of legislations relating to prevention and control of environmental pollution. These SPCBs are the prescribed authority for granting authorisation and implementation of BMWM Rules, 1998.
